May & June 2015, Washington DC:

OPEN LETTERS TO THE US PRESIDENT IN THE WASHINGTON POST

Four open letters from Naame Shaam to the US President Barack Obama in the Washington Post newspaper.

  • The first letter urges Mr Barack Obama to recognize that the so-called regime-held areas of Syria are effectively occupied by the Iranian regime and the militias it controls, and to act decisively to end the bloodshed in Syria.
  • The second letter focuses on the role of the Syrian regime and its Iranian backers in mass demolitions and population transfers in Syria, urging Mr Obama to act to stop this ongoing ‘sectarian cleansing’ in Syria.
  • The third letter focuses on the catastrophic consequences of the Obama administration’s ‘slow bleeding’ policy towards Iran and Hezbollah in Syria and how it goes against US interests.
  • The forth letter focuses on the link between Iran’s military nuclear plans and its intervention in Syria and other countries in the region. It also highlights the strategic importance of Hezbollah Lebanon in Iran’s military nuclear ambitions.

NAAME SHAAM RELEASES IN-DEPTH REPORT ON IRANIAN ROLE IN ‘SECTARIAN CLEANSING’ IN SYRIA

Naame Shaam released a new report entitled “Silent Sectarian Cleansing: Iranian Role in Mass Demolitions and Population Transfers in Syria.” The report, which was launched at the Middle East Institute in Washington DC, accuses the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad and its Iranian and Lebanese backers of systematic forced displacement of Syrian civilians and the destruction and appropriation of their property in certain parts of Syria, such as Damascus and Homs.

The report argues that these two types of international crimes constitute what appears to be a state policy of sectarian cleansing, driven by a combination of mafia-style war profiteering linked to the inner circle of the Syrian regime and a ‘Shiatisation’ programme pushed and financed by the Iranian regime and its militias.
