New series of jokes about #Khamenei_in_Syria

Sometimes all one can do in the face of death is laughter. In fact, laughter and joking can sometimes be the only adequate response to certain absurd situations. As American humourist Mark Twain once said, “The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter… Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution — these can lift at a colossal humbug, push it a little, weaken it a little, century by century; but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.”

This new series of jokes about Ayatollah Ali #Khamenei_in_Syria aims to do exactly this: to use jokes and laughter as a weapon against the “colossal humbug” that is Khamenei’s disastrous adventure in Syria. For it is Khamenei, as the supreme leader of the Iranian regime, who is, in our opinion, ultimately responsible for all this absurd death and destruction that continues to unfold in Syria.

We hope that those who have suffered the consequences of Khamenei’s adventures in Syria do not feel offended by our jokes. It is not our intention to belittle or ridicule their tragedies by joking about them. If fact, the opposite is true. As French Enlightenment philosopher René Descartes says, “Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the self-same well from which your laughter rises was often-times filled with your tears.” And remember that “Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh,” as George Bernard Shaw says.

How it will work

Every now and then we will post on our Facebook and Twitter pages a (hopefully funny) joke about #Khamenei_in_Syria and translate it into Persian, Arabic and English. The jokes will be in the form of a quiz (question and answer). Our readers will then be invited to come up with alternative answers and to the one(s) we’ve posted and post them in the comments, and to vote on the best answers posted by readers by ‘liking’ them.

All jokes will, for now, follow a certain, rigid style: every joke has to start with one of the hash tags listed below, and contain the word #Syria or something clearly related to Syria. Every answer has to start with certain corresponding words (Because, Right, etc.). Readers will be asked to follow the same rules if they wish to contribute.

All jokes must use one of the following hash tags:
– #Why_Khamenei (All answers must start with ‘Because’)
– #How_Khamenei (All answers must start with ‘He’ + verb)
– #Khamenei_is_right (‘is’ must be understood to mean ‘was’, ‘is’ or ‘will be’. All answers must start with ‘Right’, ‘Wrong’ or ‘Not Applicable’ + Because)

Gifted artists among our readers are encouraged to illustrate the jokes they like and send their cartoons to us to share.

Criteria

– No personal insults or swear words will be allowed.
– No sectarianism, racism or insulting religion will be tolerated. We are only interested in political jokes.
– We are looking for quality not quantity – jokes should be original, clever and funny.
– Any comment that does not follow the jokes’ rules above will be deleted.

Example joke
