‘Down with the Arab Socialist Da’sh Party’

Da3shPartySyrians are now not only fighting the regime and its allies (Hezbollah, the Iran and Russian governments, etc.) but also against the foreign jihadi and salafi forces and their backers (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.). One of the most notrious of these has been the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS), which Syrians now dub as ‘Da’esh’ – a mocking word derived from the group’s name’s initials in Arabic. ISIS’ practices have been as repressive and as opposed by people as those of the regime.

Thus, the drawing below – one of many – shows a banner saying: ‘Down with the Arab Socialist Da’sh Party’, in a playful reference to the ruling Arab Socialist Ba’th Party.
