What does the Iran nuclear deal mean for Syria?

Good piece from the political web magazine Slate on what the Iranian nuclear deal with the west means for Syria. The article outlines different perspectives and scenarios: from al-Assad welcoming the “historic agreement” as reduced sanctions against Iran could take the pressure off Iran and allow it to continue supporting the Syrian regime, to Syrian opposition forces saying the West has “sold them out”, to others hoping that the Iranian nuclear deal will provide impetus for a Syria deal, as Iran may now have more interest in finding a political settlement that also satisfies its new western partners.
