A powerful short film on the destruction and death caused by the ongoing bombing campaign on Aleppo, where Syrian regime airplanes and helicopters have been throwing ‘barrel bombs’ on civilian areas. ‘Barrel bombs’ are large, home-made explosive devices – barrels or any other containers filled with petrol, nails or other crude shrapnel, along with explosives and a fuse, then rolled from a helicopter, causing a huge explosion and destruction. They are totally indiscriminate in their impact. The film is entitled ‘And the Plane Stroke’, 3:14 min, produced by Soul Team for Media.
COMMENT FROM THE EDITOR:
To the Iranians supporting the Syrian regime we have two questions: Don’t these images remind you of Saddam Hussein’s bombing of Teheran in the 1980s? If so, how can you still support Bashar al-Assad?
COMMENT FROM NAAME SHAAM’S CORRESPONDENT IN GENEVA:
On Thursday, the UN Security Council ‘failed’, once again, to adopt a statement on the recent civilian deaths in Syria, especially the ongoing indiscriminate attacks by the regime forces on Aleppo. The draft, which was proposed by the US, was blocked by Russia, Syria’s second-biggest ally after Iran. Russia wanted to ‘amend’ the statement so as to just condemn “all violence by all parties.”
